Our Community

We are Emirates Fast Food Co., the Licensee of McDonald’s UAE

McDonald’s UAE prides itself on being a local member of the community and has been committed to being a responsible corporate citizen since the first restaurant opened in the UAE.

We are making our restaurants more modern and inviting places, where everyone is welcome. We’re championing healthier and happier kids. And, we’re helping those in need by raising funds for local charities.

We are making progress around preserving the environment by using less energy and reducing our carbon footprint, by recycling more, and by turning our cooking oil into bio-diesel.

Community involvement is undoubtedly an essential and key constituent of our philosophy that we adhere to. No efforts or resources are spared in our community involvement and social responsibility.

Our community activities in the UAE are either through sponsorship and strategic alliances or through our own campaigns and initiatives. They primarily revolve around supporting our compatriots through the following:

Beit Al Khair Society

McDonald's UAE partnered with a renowned non-profit organization, Beit Al Khair Society, to benefit orphans in the UAE. The partnership involved the sale of four specially printed and published children's books, which was developed by McDonald's UAE (sold in its restaurants across the UAE), with all proceeds going towards the organization. The books (in Arabic and English) appealed to children with colorful illustrations and a simple story line, and covered educational themes such as being helpful; benefits of a balanced lifestyle; giving back to the community; and the importance of reading/education. The successful campaign raised AED 200,000 for the orphaned children.

Under the theme ‘Educate a Child, Support Another’, McDonald’s UAE held a memorable celebration for the children of Beit Al Kheir Society where a donation of AED 200,000 was made for their benefit. McDonald’s UAE generated part of the donation funds from the sales of the special books, which helped educate children in the Emirates about useful important topics including sports, balanced diets, respecting the elders and preserving the environment.

Dubai Autism Center

Under the theme ‘Together We Reach Their Hearts’, McDonald’s UAE held a memorable celebration at the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC), where a donation of AED 120,000 was made to the kids of the centre. McDonald’s launched the World Children’s Day campaign in mid-October, and generated part of the donation funds from the sales of the special wristband. McDonald’s UAE had also recently launched its latest campaign with DAC, ‘Together for More Awareness about Autism’, which is aimed to increase awareness about Autism within the community in the United Arab Emirates. The simple awareness campaign, which includes introduction, acknowledgement and medication, is tailored to communicate gradually with the public and familiarize them with the behavioral disorder of neural development that’s characterized by impaired social interaction and communication.

Dubai Autism Centre is a center of excellence with highly trained professionals providing accredited programs to support individuals with Autism and their families. The Center’s mission is to successfully integrate children with Autism into the community through its holistic approach to intervention and therapies, together with their focused efforts to create social awareness about Autism.

Al Noor Training Center for Children with Special Needs

Under the theme “A Smile Is Just A Thought Away”, McDonald's UAE held a memorable celebration at the premises of Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs in Dubai where a donation of AED 100,000 was made for the benefit of its children. The event was attended by local media, representatives from Al Noor Centre and McDonald's UAE, and the children from the centre along with the winners of a drawing competition. In an endeavor to promote the sense of care in children of the country towards their less fortunate brothers and sisters, McDonald's UAE rewarded the winners of the drawing competition who demonstrated the most touching concepts.

Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs aims to provide all individuals with special needs, regardless of background, the same opportunity through professional training and care to realize their potential and integrate into the wider community. The Center’s activities help individuals with special needs achieve their highest potential…a guiding light for the community.

Arabia CSR Award

McDonald’s UAE is a founding member of the Arabia CSR Award, an award aimed at honoring organizations in the Arab world that demonstrate clear vision, concise strategy and effective implementation of CSR.

The CSR Network was launched in 2004 with the aim of working more closely with the corporate sector in the promotion of sustainable development in the UAE. The CSR Network also aimed to bring into focus the local and regional efforts that are undertaken at the corporate level to further CSR in the Middle East. As the only multi-stakeholder forum the region, the CSR Network has been dedicated to the promotion of CSR, sharing best practices, exchanging ideas and forging lasting partnerships across sectors.

First Middle East Biodiesel Project

McDonald’s UAE logistics fleet now runs on fuel made from its used vegetable oil. The biodiesel is converted by the Dubai-based company ‘Neutral Fuels’, a UAE-backed venture that makes use of environment friendly technology. ‘Neutral Fuels’operates the Middle East’s first commercial biodiesel plant.

The initiative is part of Dubai’s green schemes and is a team effort that also incorporates Dubai FDI, the foreign investment promotion arm of the Department of Economic Development. This collaboration would see all used vegetable cooking oil from all McDonald’s UAE restaurants collected and recycled every month into Biodiesel used to run its chain’s fleet of trucks.
